UM DigiFab

The course work for the Digital Fabrication seminar culminated in a weekend long workshop. The concept of entropy was explored using the Voronoi algorithm. This algorithm produces regular hexagons when run on a equilateral triangular point grid, but produces irregular geometry when run on an irregular grid.
Starting with the triangular point grid, points were randomly displaced according to a series of graphical functions controlling when and by how much the point grid would be displaced.
Using a combination of Python and Grasshopper within Rhino, the geometry of individual components where calculated based on a base surface.
These components were labeled and organized for fabrication using a CNC mill.
With over 1000 unique pieces, clearly labeled parts indicating the value of the matching pair, was essential to efficient assembly.
